Making Home Workouts Work

Jen's Home Gym SetupOne week into my at home workouts.  As I write this, I feel my legs burning from the amazing 2 hour workout I did yesterday.  While I’m only a week in, I’m finding this to be way more enjoyable that being stuck in a gym.

I’m still trying to find my groove, and I’m a bit all over the place with my workouts. So what have I been doing?  A little of bit of everything! I’m trying to find what I enjoy the most and what is most effective for me.  My workouts this week have ranged from walk/runs with my shih tzu Ming Ming, to shaking my booty with Just Dance 3.  I’ve also signed up for my fourth 5k charity run in November, and have started training at the track, and lifting weights at home.

I must admit, I have been struggling a bit with staying focused.  My intentions of an early morning workout were thrown out the window a couple days when I hit the snooze button repeatedly.  I’ve found myself distracted more than once by my computer.  And it’s very difficult trying to do sit ups with a dog licking your face every time you’re on the floor!

But I must be doing something right.  When I stepped on the scale this morning, I was pleased to find that I’ve lost 2 pounds, even after an extra helping of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving dinner yesterday.

The next week will be tough for me.  I’ll be traveling, having company over the weekend and celebrating my birthday…..likely meaning lots of cake and lots of booze! But, I’m determined to stay on course, and hope to report another 2 pound weight loss next week.

Good for you! I find it hard to make the time to work out at home, since there’s always something else I think I ‘should’ be doing. I’m trying to make it a priority though. I did three small weight work outs last week; it’s a good start at least. Thanks for the inspiration!

Jen, you really are an inspiration! I have every intention to get outside and go for a walk/run and begin the couch to 5K program again, but I can’t see to motivate myself to do it. I also have the workout programs for Kinect and Just Dance 3, and the free weights, but I still find myself busy with other stuff. The fact that you can get yourself to continually do this at home is wonderful. Now, perhaps you need to start your morning routine with a wakeup call to me to force me into doing it to! ;)

I really needed to read this post. I’ve been saying that I am going to back to working out for months. I keep making excuses about not having the time or the money. I gave up on the gum and my running group dor these very valid reasons. But the truth is I have several great workout DVDs and I just need to get them out and get to work. Thanks for the reminder! And the inspiration!
